50 Promises To Make To Yourself

We’re often way too hard on ourselves. This prevents us from living in the present, learning from our mistakes in constructive ways and being the best versions of ourselves. As the seasons change, winter fades away and flowers bloom, we challenge you also to shed your dark thinking and learn to live in light.

We compiled a list of promises to make to yourself to help achieve this and get on a path to positivity and happiness.

  1. I will practice self-love, even when it’s tough.
  2. I will stick up for myself.
  3. I will surround myself with positive people who appreciate my love, talents and efforts.
  4. I will not compare my achievements to those of others.
  5. I will be kind and practice love and tolerance, no matter what life tosses my way.
  6. I will refrain from comparing my body to others.
  7. I will embrace my gifts rather than fixate on the things I’m lacking.
  8. I will tell people that I love how I feel, and often.
  9. I will demand respect, from both others and myself.
  10. I will not settle for less.
  11. I will learn from the past, but not dwell on mistakes or what could have been.
  12. I will read a good book.
  13. I will work hard, both in my professional and personal lives.
  14. I will balance my professional and personal lives.
  15. I will smile at strangers on the street.
  16. I will not long to be someone else.
  17. I will choose positivity over negativity.
  18. I will practice emotional and physical boundaries when necessary.
  19. I will indulge in baths, complete with salts, music and candles.
  20. I will only buy clothes that make me feel good today, rather than things that will make me feel self-conscious or might fit after I lose 10 pounds.
  21. I will set only reasonable expectations for myself.
  22. I will set goals for myself.
  23. I will spend time with people I love.
  24. I will sever toxic relationships.
  25. I will walk through pain knowing that it will foster growth and will not last forever.
  26. I will tone down any drama in my life.
  27. I will follow the lead of people who are living healthy lives.
  28. I will lead with example.
  29. I will help those in need, but only in a way that is healthy and adheres to my boundaries.
  30. I will spend time outside.
  31. I will practice self-care.
  32. I will not run myself ragged with commitments.
  33. I will continue to learn and remain teachable.
  34. I will refrain from judgment and will not offer others my opinion unless asked.
  35. I will practice what I preach.
  36. I will make myself a priority.
  37. I will pause to enjoy the little things in life, even when it seems like I do not have time for a break.
  38. I will eat well, but also indulge myself once in a while.
  39. I will not use people in harmful ways to meet my own needs.
  40. I will not use myself in harmful ways to meet others’ needs.
  41. I will find hobbies or be sure to make time for existing ones.
  42. I will not rely on other people, places and things to find happiness.
  43. I will not avoid basic responsibilities, like returning a phone call, putting off the dentist or leaving a bill unpaid.
  44. I will walk through fear and my insecurities.
  45. I will stop by an ice cream stand and get my favorite flavor on a hot summer day.
  46. I will focus on solutions, rather than problems.
  47. I will not worry about what other people think about me because it’s not my business and does not necessarily reflect who I am.
  48. I will acknowledge my faults and work on them, but I will not fixate on them.
  49. I will remind myself every day that life is meant to be lived – and I will do so to the fullest.
